Working in rare diseases is never just a job. It's personal for all of us.

PTC Germany: A Decade of Advocacy and Innovation

PTC Germany

PTC Germany has been a relentless champion for people with rare diseases. Since the office opened in September 2014, the team has made incredible strides in transforming lives through enhanced awareness, patient advocacy and groundbreaking treatments.

Most importantly, PTC Germany has given patients a new voice. Through innovative and creative awareness initiatives, collaborations and partnerships, PTC Germany has raised the visibility of rare disease conditions and put a spotlight on the needs of rare disease communities.

Reflecting on a decade of service for the #PTCEurope10 anniversary, PTC German colleagues who boast more than 150 years of work experience in rare diseases share their proudest achievements and future ambitions.

After 10 years I can proudly say: We made it!

“10 years at PTC in Germany were filled with ups and downs. In these years the German team was always engaged and fully dedicated to striving for the big goal: improve patients’ lives.

10 years of raising awareness of rare diseases and the need for innovative treatments; 10 years of working for an earlier diagnosis to ensure that patients can access a treatment as early as possible.

10 years of working with healthcare professionals to improve the treatment and the lives of patients and to increase the knowledge and understanding of rare diseases.

10 years of trying to find a solution for every challenge we faced. And now, after 10 years I can proudly say: We made it!

Today patients with nmDMD* and AADCd* can lead a better life.

The good news is: There is more to come and more patients with other rare diseases will have a chance for a better life due to our engagement”.

It is my passion to give patients a voice and fight for those who are often forgotten.

“Over the past decade, PTC Germany has been dedicated to giving patients a voice, particularly those suffering from rare diseases. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by individuals with rare conditions, we have focused on fostering disease awareness and supporting the patient community. Our commitment has been evident through numerous initiatives aimed at increasing understanding and visibility of rare diseases.

I have worked in the rare disease pharma industry for over 20 years. It is my passion to give patients a voice and fight for those who are often forgotten, and I am proud to say that we have achieved a lot on this front.

Within PTC I have the privilege of not only working with a great cross-functional team and great people outside PTC, but also being able to initiate special projects. The most memorable initiatives include graffiti from the four-time world champion Peter Tronser to raise awareness of the very rare disease AADC deficiency, displayed in three German cities, and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten in Hamburg was illuminated in red to honor World Duchenne Awareness Day (a joint collaboration with the Deutsche Muskelschwund-Hilfe e.V. and the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten).

An initiative that I will never forget in my entire life was the Powerchair Hockey World Championship 2022, a key sporting event for people with physical disabilities. I had the honor together with my colleagues to participate and give an opening speech.

We will continue to help people affected by rare disease and their families, giving them a voice, fighting for them and helping to bring therapies to make their lives better.”

It’s more than just work, it’s a passion and purpose that we all share.

“Being an Office Manager for PTC means you have a lot of insights into many areas in the company. Working for PTC feels like having another family. Supporting and helping each other and uplifting each other during challenging times is what makes my time at PTC so special.

Each team member brings their own personality, sprit, passion, experience and drive to keep going and fight for patients all over the world. We love what we do and that is simply amazing to see.

It’s more than just work, it’s a passion that we all share and the purpose we work for at PTC, namely improving lives and helping patients and their families.

I am looking forward to growing further with the company, collaborating with my colleagues globally, supporting our local team and not to forget, to have fun and enjoy the moments that we share.

I was impressed with the PTC core values.

“I have worked in the pharma industry for over 26 years and five years ago I joined PTC because I was impressed by PTC’s core values (passionate about purpose, ever better, work as one PTC, champion inclusion, trust and respect, be bold) because they resonate with my own: trust, openness, thankfulness and development.

I am a believer in collective intelligence, continuous learning and team collaboration and this is what PTC is particularly strong in. A shared mission drives us to create value and make a positive impact on patients’ lives through innovation, collaboration and excellence. In my role, I collaborate with healthcare professionals and strive to make a positive impact on patients’ lives through knowledge sharing, innovation, collaboration and conducting educational events.

Our purpose is to harness the power of collective intelligence to solve complex challenges, deliver exceptional products and foster rare disease awareness. The passion for my work is nurtured in this inspiring environment. This energy and enthusiasm are contagious, motivating me to give my best every day.”

As PTC enters its second decade in Europe, the German team will continue to lead this important cause.
