BioTech Breakthrough Award Badge 2024

We are thrilled to share that PTC was selected as winner of the BioTech AI Solution of the Year award from the BioTech Breakthrough Awards.

The BioTech Breakthrough Awards program “aims to perform the most comprehensive evaluation of life sciences and biotechnology tools, services and companies today, with nominations coming in from the best and brightest biotechnology innovators around the world.”

To celebrate this outstanding achievement, we connected with Linda Montella-Carter, SVP, Chief Information Officer, and Tyler Bryk, Head of Artificial Intelligence to learn more about how PTC is using AI, the creation of our enterprise tool PTC AI, and their goals for the future of AI at PTC.

How is PTC currently using AI?

Tyler: At PTC, we are leveraging AI across a number of critical areas to enhance our operations and drive innovation. In drug discovery, AI algorithms are analyzing extensive datasets to identify potential drug candidates and predict their efficacy and safety, accelerating the discovery process. In drug development, AI-powered digital twins are enabling us to accurately simulate trials, optimize patient selection, and use predictive analytics, thereby improving trial design and success rates. Additionally, AI is aiding in the commercialization of therapies by helping us to analyze market trends, patient data, and competitive landscapes, which help to develop effective strategies for bringing therapies to market and ensuring they reach the patients who need them most. By integrating AI into these key areas, we have been able to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and ultimately bring innovative therapies to patients more efficiently.

How does AI help to make PTC more efficient?

Linda: In a time when resources are limited, our AI efforts have enabled us to operate more efficiently, making a significant impact while using fewer resources. Our AI tools can handle repetitive and time-consuming tasks, freeing up time for employees to focus on more complex and strategic activities. They have also facilitated instant information retrieval, leading to quicker decision-making, enhanced communication, idea generation, and effective brainstorming, among other benefits.

What have you been most excited about/proud of in the implementation of AI and machine learning at PTC?

Linda: I am incredibly proud of the strides we have made with our internal AI systems. Last year, we developed our very own enterprise tool called PTC AI, which not only surpasses the capabilities of other platforms but also ensures we operate within a safe and secure environment. This tool has fostered a culture of innovation and creativity within PTC, allowing us to rapidly process information and significantly enhance our productivity across various departments.

Why did we decide to create an in-house AI tool versus using one that already existed in the market?

Tyler: We decided to create our in-house tool, PTC AI, to better meet the specific needs and unique challenges of our organization. While there are many exciting AI solutions on the market today, they often lacked the customization and flexibility required to fully integrate with our processes and workflows. By developing our own AI tool, we could tailor it precisely to our requirements, ensuring that it aligns perfectly with our goals and operational nuances. Additionally, an in-house solution allows us to maintain greater control over data security and privacy, which is paramount in our industry. It also fosters innovation within the company, as our team can continuously refine and enhance the tool to keep pace with evolving demands and technological advancements. Ultimately, this approach enables us to operate more efficiently and effectively, driving greater value and achieving better outcomes.

What are your goals for the future of using AI at PTC?

Linda: Our goals for the future of using AI include developing and implementing digital twin technology within our clinical trials, enabling advanced simulations, predictive modeling, and optimized trial design. We also aim to utilize PTC AI’s translation capabilities to facilitate communication across different languages, which will streamline for our global operations. Additionally, we plan to leverage AI for advanced analytics to draw deeper insights from our data, supporting more informed decision-making and strategic planning. Enhancing our security footprint through AI is another key goal, as it will help bolster our defenses against potential threats and ensure a safe and secure environment for PTC. By focusing on these areas, we intend to harness AI’s full potential to drive innovation, efficiency, and security at PTC.

Congratulations to PTC’s AI team for this award win and critical recognition!
